Procession - Vehicles
Important information about vehicle entries in the Nailsea Carnival Procession
Vehicles are welcome to participate in the Nailsea Carnival Procession, but please be aware of the following restrictions and conditions of entry. By submitting an entry into the procession, you are confirming that you are aware of these restrictions and agree to abide by the conditions outlined below:
The procession route includes part of Mizzymead Road and High Street where a 7.5T weight limit is in effect. Any vehicle entered into the procession must comply with this weight restriction; there is no exception to the weight limit during the Carnival procession. There is no alternative procession route available.
At the end of the procession route, vehicles are not permitted to turn right from High Street into Brockway, and will not therefore be able to enter Millennium Park with the walking entrants. Vehicles must unload their passengers at this point, and then continue along High Street (B3130), and turn right into Nailsea Park before entering the field from the north-east entrance.
Larger vehicles may have difficulty in negotiating the chicanes and other street furniture on High Street. Be aware that, whilst a road closure is in effect for the duration of the procession, the organisers of Nailsea Carnival do not restrict prior access to High Street for parking, meaning that there will also likely be parked cars on the roadside which will create a further obstacle for larger procession vehicles.
Entrants are responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are appropriately insured, both for use on the public highway and also for participation in the procession. Standard motor insurance policies may not include cover for participation in the procession or use of a vehicle as a float, and therefore you must check that appropriate cover is in place before participating. In addition, entrants using vehicles are required to have in place appropriate public liability insurance in place.
All loads and decorations attached to vehicles must be safely and securely fastened. Vehicle lights and indicators must remain visible at all times and may not be obscured by decorations or other attachments. Vehicles used in the procession must be in a safe, legal and roadworthy condition.
If you are using a vehicle as a float in which participants are being conveyed, appropriate safety precautions must be put in place. This includes all participants being seated and wearing a seatbelt whilst the vehicle is in motion, and appropriate barriers, e.g. side railings, being installed to prevent anybody from falling from the vehicle. Nothing may be thrown, collected or handed out from vehicle floats at any time.
No vehicle participating in the procession may exceed 5mph at any time and drivers must adhere to any and all instructions given to them by procession marshals or members of Nailsea Carnival Committee.
Nailsea Carnival Committee has the right to inspect any vehicle before the procession commences and may, at its absolute discretion, prohibit a vehicle from participating in the procession in the event that they consider these conditions have not been met.
